    Hi,
I’m somewhat of a newbie at FCP. I’m learning at school a little ahead of class in our g5 labs. I have a question however. A few years ago, I edited with Premiere. In that, I made an anime music video (amv) from a few downloaded divx files I had. In premiere, I could just drop then in there and it took little or no time to import them and then edit them as I wish, and then a long time to export them out. No biggie, and that was a few years ago on my then 2.0p4 machine. Now, with final cut pro, I tried doing the same thing, importing a divx video (xvid to be specific) into FCP. It brings it in, but won’t let me view it, edit it. I’ve got a the whole red line at the top and it won’t render it. It says it’s much longer that it is (something like 1h30min for a 23min file) etc. Now, first I’m wondering what kind of codecs I might need and if, for example, the g5 needs divx 5.0 etc as I don’t thinkg the g5s at school have any codecs, but i’ve been told that final cut edits everything. Quicktime won’t play the files, but VLC has no problem. Do I need to convert it to .mov? Any thoughts would be helpful, thanks 🙂
