  • Divide up a .ai file?

BASICALLY, I know how to get an illustrator file into C4d, but it is a logo. It is all combined, so I need to extrude some of it forward, and some of it backward, then apply different materials to the parts. So, Do I have to save each part in illustrator, or can I divide and conquer in C4D? I am assuming if I need to import each part then I combine under a null object. Any help appreciated. I am new to C4D. I started in 3d CGI almost 30 years ago, but left it 20 years ago. I used to write my own subroutines. I know the foundation.

should be able to split the pieces in C4D as you import the .ai file you should be able to choose (or not) Connect Splines and Group Splines – that can split into the splines which were in the .ai file. If the splines are already all in one spline you can (in Point Mode) right-click and choose Explode Segments (or it’s in the menu Mesh/Spline/Explode Segments – if they need to be together (like the holes in ‘A’ and ‘O’ etc) there is the Connect command.
