While sitting around waiting for compressor to encode files I’m getting interested in setting up a basic cluster to spread the load. Apple seems to have a rediculously easy method, using QMaster and Compressor, it’s really easy to set up a cluster with a few computers on the same network.

I quickly set it up and the cluster became active, but when I submitted a job to it in Compressor it Failed, saying the “media server crashed” or something like that.

Anyone else had much success with this method of clustering and can anyone offer advice?

I’m running two G5 workstations. One is connected via fibre channel to a 5TB Raid box which stores HD media, and the other G5 is just connected to the network over gigabit ethernet.

    ???

I don’t recommend using QMaster for VBR encoding, but it’s okay for CBR. The problem with VBR is that there isn’t any coordination between nodes, so that it won’t move bits between them. So your VBR allocation gets worse the more nodes you have.
