I have been getting some distortion in my audio after authoring a DVD with Encore. The levels are fine on my playback monitor and in the headphones speakers when I export the avi to author. Is there a reason why this happens?

well, my problem was that what sounded OK in my PC speakers (and even on the Panasonic Video Monitor) were peaking when I looked at the levels in Sound Forge. Even though they weren’t drastic peaks, they were peaks none the less. I guess the transcoding process doesn’t take kindly to peaks at all. I compressed and normalized the audio file and then looked for peaks in the new file before I re-authored it. Everything came out great.
