  • Distorted audio when burnt on BD

I’ve made a dozen 2 to 3 hour films of family trips abroad. First on DVD then Blu Ray. All on Premiere Pro. From CS3 to CC2018. All with Voice Over. The Voice Over is done on Audition with the ENDN formula (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x__NthInRs) Equalize, Normalize (98.5), Compress, Normalize (98.5). The last film I did sounds great on a computer with or without headphones. But when I play the BD on a TV the sound is very loud and quite distorted, especially the Voice Over. I encoded a version with gain lowered by -5. Result – same thing, only quieter. Rendered another, minus 10 Audio Gain this time. Quieter, but when you turn up the TV volume so you can hear what’s going on, it’s distorted again. I am not sure if “distorted” is the correct word in English, it sounds like when you’ve recorded something with peaks high in the red.
I tried the project’s sound on several different computers. All sounds good off the computers. And what is important!!! all sounds like it did on previous projects I made. It is only the DVD and BD (I tried both) that sound horrible. Like I said, I’ve made many films and never had this problem before.

I have to stress on the fact that I don’t hear any problems before I burn the BD. So I don’t know hwat to correct, let alone how to correct it. Can somebody advise what to do to the audio? Simple terms please, I am not good with audio at all.

    Thank you!

So you add the voice over in Premiere and export?

What are you importing to Encore?

    What audio format in Encore?

    Is Encore transcoding the audio?

Normally I export H264 BluRay. This time, because of the bad audio in the BluRay, I tried DVD and even DNx. The audio is wav. I can’t tell if Encore is transcoding it. The point is that I have always, for years, done the same thing, but this is the first time I get the bad audio.
    Thanks,

I can only speak for CS6 programs, but, I’ve got to ask….. What were the audio settings you used in Premiere?
and in Encore, when you imported that file from Premiere, did audio on computer sound identical to Premiere?

Also… Check your BR Player…. Is the audio settings there correct for the audio settings in Premiere and Encore?
Also… Check settings on Computer Player software… Do those match the BR Player

I’ve never encountered this, so I’m trying to come up with a senerio that may cause this… Its got to be incompatible audio settings somewhere… ???

Thank you for answering. All you write is exactly what I thought. Because it never happened before and before I was on CS6 too, I thought the problem is some incompatibility between the new CC and… something else down the line (again, everything else down the line, including Encore hasn’t changed for years). So I checked and double checked the settings. I even made alternative copies in with all-48000 or all 44100 etc. Same thing. Like you say, it’s there somewhere but I can’t find it.

Thanks again (if you think of something else, please write),
