Dissolves

Ok, remember there aren’t an tracks. Clips are connected to clips in the primary. Just becuase they happen to reside next to each other in horizontal space doesn’t really mean anything. Those clips not within a secondary are free to move vertically out of the way to make room for other clips moving horizontally. So if you accept that individual clips are connected to a single spot in the primary, you have to accept that you can’t add a dissolve between those clips because one of them would have to break their connection to the point in the primary. Connections cant’ have two connection points, and adding a dissolve essentially connects two clips together horizontally. You’d have to lose one of the vertical connections.

Obviously they could make a preference that says something like “allow 2 horizontally adjacent connected clips to form a secondary by adding a transition between them and allow the first of the two clips to retain the connection point” but I think that’s getting to specific. Easier to just keep the rule that they have to be in a secondary.
