I have two clips butted up next two each other and would like to add a dissolve transition, by placing my cursor in the centre of the two clips and dragging a transition from the transition window, I thought a transition will overlap the two clips automatically & create a cross fade/dissolve, however this doesn

Did you turn off “Automatic Crossfades”? It’s one of the buttons on the toolbar.

Edward, that is defiantly active. If I drag the clip from the right over the clip on the left, it defiantly creates a cross fade, What it wont let me do is place two clips next to each other and allow me to right mouse click add transition.

Is there anything else you can think of?

Edward, In preferences/edit/cut-to overlap conversation was set to 0, I set that to 1.000 & it works perfect.

    Thanks heaps.

The other question I have is where can I find the crossfade transition? It doesn

The crossfade is simply the “automatic” transition when you overlap two clips. The transitions are something you can use to REPLACE the auto-crossfade. I know of NO way of getting back to the auto-crossfade than right-clicking the transition and picking “Crossfade”.
