Why does my dissolve between cuts look like shit?

Using quicktime conversion (and I think I checked the box on ‘deinterlace source’) in Final Cut, I exported the sequence as a 720 x 576 PAL DV .mov file and burned it onto dvd using iDVD.

Playback on a CRT shows the clip is fine and nice except the dissolves look really shitty. Like all wobbly and trembly and just distrastrous looking.

What am I doing wrong? Should I put a de-flickr filter which will soften everything? Or leave “deinterlace” box unchecked?

    Help!

Why are you exporting to QuickTime Conversion if you’re going to iDVD? You should export to QuickTime Movie and take that to iDVD. Chcek the exported QuickTime Movie in the QT player and see how that looks.

    All the best,

I don’t know. I always saw people use quicktime conversion instead of going to quicktime movie directly. Would you be able to tell me what’s the difference between converting to quicktime movie vs converting using quicktime conversion to the myriad of formats? Sorry for the ignorance.

I just tried exporting as quicktime movie. You are right, the dissolves and sped-up sequences look MUCH better! Thanks!!

QuickTime Movie by default exports to the sequence format settings. QT conversion is to for web export. It defaults to a smaller size and H.264.

I see. I will google for more info on the other conversion formats then.

    Thanks so much Tom!
