I exported a reference quicktime from FCP 5. I imported it into Motion. Is there a way to display the original source timecode in motion. I created a mask and imported the Motion project back into FCP. The clip does not maintain its original code. Is there a way for Motion to read and maintain the original source and have it sent back to FCP?

Why not do an ‘edit in external editor’ from within FCP?

As far as I know, Motion projects are treated like new QT clips so they would have their own TC. Might be a good suggestion to Apple to allow the user to assign a custom starting TC for a project.

If you are just doing tests for your grahics, try the timecode read filter in fcp. Export your movie with that applied. Tweak everything you need in motion with the timecode burned in. Once you have everything you need, replace the original media in your motion project with out the time code reader filter applied.Seems like a lot of steps, but at least you will be able to see the original time codes.
