I posted a question a few months ago expressing trouble when burning a DVD, the correct 16:9 aspect ratio is never displayed correctly and I’m still having the same problem. I’m using Sorenson Squeeze 4.0 to compress the file, and AVID DVD by Sonic to burn the file and widescreen display options don’t appear in either of these programs. I’m also sending it to be encoded in the step by step process expressed by AVID and nothing still seems to work. The project is 2hrs and change and it seems to be compressing every hour a minute of footage, I’ve never encountered compression being this slow before. Being the first time I’ve compressed in this program I don’t know if that’s normal. If someone could find an answer to this query it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Export QT ref from Avid as 4:3 aspect ratio as I am assuming the sources are anamorphic. In the MPEG2 settings for video, there is a drop down menu selection for 4:3 or 16:9. Select 16:9. This will encode the flag indicating that the DVD player needs to letterbox or not depending on the settings for the monitor attached.

I don’t know why it is taking so long to encode. Are you using the NTSC_Large preset?

You can take an existing file found in the video-ts folder of an already created DVD and edit it to have the flag using an application called IfoEdit. Do a Google search and you will find it. It is a windows app.
