Posted by David Roth weiss on August 9, 2005 at 6:12 pm

Is it possible to have FCP 5 display to a monitor via Deckilnk Extreme during capture? Right now its only displaying to a VGA monitor in the little FCP capture window, and it seems reject my normal display settings at capture time.

    TIA,
    DRW

    Hi David,

Please open the DeckLink preferences in the System Preferences and look at the setting named Black Video Output to Deck in Capture.

  • If you are using external reference, such as a blackburst generator, then you can set this menu to Disabled and this will allow you to monitor video via SDI or analog outputs during capture.
  • If you are using the DeckLink card to provide a sync signal to the deck during capture, and you connect to the deck via SDI, set this menu to SDI Digital Out and this will allow you to monitor video via the analog outputs during capture.
  • If you are using the DeckLink card to provide a sync signal to the deck during capture, and you connect to the deck via component or composite analog video, set this menu to Analog Outputs and this will allow you to monitor video via the SDI output during capture.
  • You can find more information about this in the technical note How to sync a deck with a DeckLink card.

    Hi David,

I have just created the following technical note based upon your question: Broadcast monitor goes black during capture.

Thanks Luke. You’re very thorough, and its great to have such attentive care from a vendor. Its very rare in this business. I’m gonna have to tinker around a bit to see how this works for me, but so far its all good…

    Thnx,
    David
