    Hello,

This is a really stupid question… I recently upgraded my FCP and in the process lost the setting that allows the audio and video to be selected and edited separately (right now, if I click on a clip, both the video and corresponding audio are selected–I need to be able to select and edit them separately). I’ve been trying to figure out how to regain that, but can’t figure out how. Can anyone give me some advice on this?

    Thanks!

Have you tried turning ON or OFF the track select buttons on the left edge of the timeline?

Thanks for the response, Thax. I just found the “Linked Selection” button on the top right of the timeline which allows me to select the video or each audio track from a clip individually.

You can also use “apple L” if you want to unlink certain selections, or link audio and video that wasn’t originally linked.

Just hold the option key down when you are trimming either audio or video. Way easier.
