As per Mike’s post, there may be a simple solution.

Go to your settings and deselect “Hide Newbie Posts”

The problem with that setting is that many of us read the forum in other ways. The result is that we’re responding to posts using those other methods. We come to the forum and it’s hiding the newbie posts . . . as well as all our not so newbie responses.

I think COW might have to rethink that option as well as the default enabled setting.

I guess that was it, it seemed to restore the thread.

My question would be why is that check-box apparently toggling on and off by itself… since the thread seems to come and go at will.

And I’ve always kept that box unchecked… I certainly don’t want to be in a closed/elitist community, and the newbis are often the ones that need help from the rest of us the most.

Weird. Wait… is that Rod Serling over there…..?

[Craig Seeman] “Go to your settings and deselect “Hide Newbie Posts””

Yeah, that worked. Had no idea that setting was even there.

I think it was just recently implemented.

I can see the reasoning. It reduces clutter for those who want to focus communications with other more advanced skills. The problem is it impacts only the forum and not the other ways the forum sends out messages. Also there are those of us who want to help newbies . . . but that’s why you can disable it. Obviously in it’s current state it’s creating confusion and those of us confused by it are the ones who are helping the newbies and then finding our posts MIA.

Interesting… just happened to me as well. But here’s the weird thing. I opened up in a different browser, and I could see my post. Oh wait, I see… I’m not loggin in with the other browser. Never mind…

Production is fun – but lets not forget: Nobody ever died on the video table!

    You are a fluke
    Of the universe.
You have no right to be here…..

    Go placidly
    Amid the noise and waste.
And remember what comfort there may be
    In owning a piece thereof.

    Avoid quiet and passive persons
Unless you are in need of sleep.
    Ro-tate your tires.

Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself
    And heed well their advice,
    Even though they be turkeys.
    Know what to kiss…..and when!

Consider that two wrongs never make a right
    But that THREE………do.
Wherever possible, put people on hold.
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment
And despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer main-te-nance.

    You are a fluke
    Of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back.

    Remember the Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mu-ti-late.
    Know yourself.
If you need help, call the FBI.

Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you.
That lemon on your left, for instance.

Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
    Fall not in love therefore;
It will stick to your face.

Gracefully surrender the things of youth:
The birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan
And let not the sands of time
    Get in your lunch.

    Hire people with hooks.
    For a good time call 606-4311;
    Ask for “Ken.”

Take heart amid the deepening gloom
That your dog is finally getting enough cheese.
And reflect that whatever misfortune may be your lot
It could only be worse in Milwaukee.

    You are a fluke
    Of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back.

Therefore, make peace with your god
Whatever you conceive him to be—
    Hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises and urban renewal
    The world continues to deteriorate.
    GIVE UP!

    You are a fluke
    Of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not
The universe is laughing behind your back.
