Occasionally I’ll open an AEP and get an alert that some of my ‘dependencies’ are missing, in this case meaning fonts.

Since the fonts WERE there before, what might cause them to disappear and/or simply not be found?

Are you using Creative Cloud Typekit fonts? Under some circumstances they can become unavailable if not connected to the internet.

    Nope: standard local *.otf fonts.

It’s not just that they’re not “installed”, the files themselves (as best as I can tell, hard to know with font vs filenames) seem to be not on the machine.

Moving the original files or renaming folders can break links to various assets. But I don’t see that it could happen with fonts that are installed on the machine.
