    Disadvantages to what? Acquisition?

XAVC is a more modern AVC-Intra. It has a ton of options in an acquisition codec (4k, RGB,, YCrCb, 444, 422, 420, 10bit, 8bit, I-frame, long GOP, etc).

If you shoot the MXF variant, you can buy a plugin and skip the rewrap process in fcpx. It saves me money down the road in archiving.

There’s Calibrated Software, but I am partial to MXF4mac.

We have an F55 now, by the way. 😉

There is a less expensive solution from SONY that interacts directly with FCP X, the “Content Browser 2.2” . It will import MXF in an FCP X Event and Export any FCP X project properly formated back to an MXF file …
For XAVC , XDCAM, XDCAM 422, XDCAM EX in/out MXF files

    all the best

Edited : Theoricaly it deals with almost all Sony MXF but it does not do XAVC MXF … sorry

    Hi Zap.

Last I checked, it doesn’t seem to work for XAVC, unless of course I don’t have v2.2. I just downloaded a round of updates a few weeks ago, so I think I have the latest.

I do like Content Browser though. If what you say is true and you can in fact send XAVC MXF files to fcpx without rewrapping to .mov, that will be awesome.

    Edited my post …

I double checked and 2.2 does not yet do XAVC , we mostly work with XDCAM HD 422 and SR Tape for now and i had not tested XAVC. You have to go to page 229 to realize the fact.

    sorry for the hopes

    all the best

The main disadvantage may be that is property of SONY.
