I recently was completing a commercial shoot, and after about 38 minutes into the tape, I went to resume shooting a shot and noticed the red circle X blinking. According to manuel this is dirty cylinder head message. The camera only has 51 hours on meter, and I noticed nothing on tape in terms of degradation of quality. I turned off the camera and turned back on; the message disappeared and I completed shoot without further incidence.

Any thoughts? The shot was a close up, near a heated lamp (although room temp was cool). I’m wondering if this was more a function of heat, rather than wear?

51 hours is quite a bit if you’re using a lot of different tape stocks and not running the head cleaner. Also can be an issue if you’re in a humid environment.

I’ve used AY-DVM63MQ’s exclusively. But, prior to the shoot I ran the tape cleaner for the first time for 8 seconds or so. I’m guessing it may be humidity.

How often do you run cleaner tape?

I run mine every 15 hours or so or whenever I get an error.
