I’m sure this one comes up a lot.

In my recent work, I have found that my scenes are way too clean. I would like to start making little piles of dust/dirt, cigarette ash (in the ash tray), crumbs next to food.

What is the basic formula to make debris?

The way I do it is to use a fracturing plugin to break up an object or objects and then use dynamics to let the object(s) fall into a pile. The plugin I use is called NitroBlast but there are a number of options and some of them are free (Thrausi for example: https://nitro4d.com/blog/freebie/thrausi/ ).
