Hi guys. I seem to get the best answers here (much better than on the “official” Sony Vegas forum) so i will ask another one.

There seems to be conflicting info on the net about whether or not Vegas Movie Studio 10 supports DirectShow filters (codecs) or only the much older Video for Windows codecs as some are claiming.

Now I’m reading about how Microsoft has already started working on replacing DirectShow with something completely different for their Windows 7 product line. It’s disconcerting if Sony is so far behind that they are still only supporting Video for Windows which is basically Windows 98 technology carried over to Windows XP as I understand it.

    Thanks.

Movie Studio 10 uses Video for Windows. If you look at the render options, it clearly says Video for Windows. If you install DirectShow codecs, they will not be seen.

Thanks John. Just what I suspected. Disappointing. I don’t know what other opinions are, but it seems to me that once Sony bought Sonic Foundry from a bunch of hot-shot developers in Wisconsin, technological advances came to a snail’s pace. 🙁
