Direct to HD (CitiDisk)
Posted by Naveen Mallikarjuna on November 28, 2006 at 10:05 pmDoes anyone have any experience writing directly to an HD, without a P2 card? I assume most people who do are using Firestore, but has anyone done (or tried) it with a CitiDISK HD?

November 29, 2006 at 6:53 amAFAIK CitiDisk does not yet support DVCProHD, only HDV. They have been talking about ‘soon’ for a while, though.

December 8, 2006 at 11:31 pmSo far not much luck with Citidisk… Seems like they need to offer more info about it and explain it’s downsides. Have purchased and have not been able to shoot anything with it. Am forced to return it at this point. Not much luck with their competition either. Feel like going back to hdv for a while…

December 10, 2006 at 4:08 pmWe’re working with two 8gb P2 cards, plus the CitiDISK HD. We haven’t yet been able to record directly to the CitiDISK, but we can copy files from the P2 to the CitiDISK. This alone is a big help, since we can just fill up the P2 cards then tranfer the data to the CitiDisk, wipe the cards, and continue shooting in the field. Considering the price diff. from the Firestore, and the fact that it is lighter, the CitiDisk is worth it at this point.
Of course, we would still like full functionality, and are working towards it. The Shining people have been help full, answering our e-mails to tech support relatively quickly. The major problem is the lack of phone support. For this reason alone, I’d recommend going with the Firestore if you can afford it.
