  • direct selection tool missing tail — can’t drag to move certain shape layers

I might be missing something simple, but I can’t seem to find an answer yet.

I’m using AE cc 2015. I have not encountered this issue until a few hours ago. When I select some of my shape layers (only certain of them) and have the v tool selected, instead of an arrow, I get the tail-less arrow head and am only able to drag the vertices around. I am not able to move the shape via dragging — only using keypad.

is this a bug? if so, any idea how to fix?

    Thank you!

What exact version of Ae CC 2015 are you using? One bug that sounds like this was fixed in 13.5.1, and a different bug (pan behind tool, maybe?) was fixed in 13.6.

To me it sounds like the normal behavior for the direct selection tool with paths/shape vertices for vertex point editing when there is no fill in the shape.

Try double-clicking the path to select the whole shape.
