Normally such dimmers have a 300w maximum capacity. Somewhere on the dimmer it should tell you it’s capacity. If it doesn’t, spend the lousy 20 bucks and go to Home Depot and buy a new one — perhaps even a 600watt model.
Be advised, your ARRI will be pushing the 300w dimmer to it’s limit ….with no allowance.DS

June 10, 2008 at 4:42 amAgreed… for something in the $20-30 range at Home Depot you can easily pick up the parts to cobble together a very pro-lookin’ squeeze box in the 600w neighborhood.
Goose that up into the $75-100 range and you can make a nice 1K unit that will have even more versitility.

June 11, 2008 at 4:33 amThe Router Speed Control from Harbor Freight does a nice job as a 1K dimmer for $13. It seems to work just as well as the $120 one I bought. Same amount of electrical buzz at the lower end, but that is to be expected.

June 12, 2008 at 2:30 pmThe Router Speed Control looks like an affordable option. I’m gonna have to get me one. We have several of the 1k Home Depot versions and they work just fine.
