Dimensions keep changing??? It is breaking my brain!!!!
Posted by Natasha O’cconor on June 4, 2008 at 12:31 amI have a clip and I go to the “get info” box and it reads that the dimensions are 720×576.
I then go to QT and look in the info material box there and my dimensions are now 1024×576? What does this mean?Brian Alexander replied 16 years, 1 month ago 4 Members · 4 Replies -

June 4, 2008 at 2:40 amI think you are seeing the actual dimensions of the clip (720 x 576) in the get info box, and in QT you are seeing the DISPLAY dimensions, 1024 x 576. Sounds like anamorphic footage. It is squeezed horizontally for capture, but would be displayed at the wider frame size for the correct aspect.

June 4, 2008 at 3:56 amAnd in fact 1024×576 is the default display resolution for PAL 16:9 (720 * 1.7777 = 1024)

July 7, 2008 at 10:14 amok ok – So I am TRYING to export Mpeg 2s Multiplexed 720×576 16:9. Every-time I export I see the footage as 720×404? I am entering my works ads competition and their requirements are 720×576 16:9. I have tried everything and it is due now! Just have to get them in my midnight tonight. Somebody out there can put me straight again..?

Here’s what I’m seeing from this end (although it’s a moot point); the 720 x 576 (1024 x 576) is a PAL based frame. The 720 x 404 sounds like a 16:9 letter-boxed image in a 720 x 480 NTSC frame.
Just thought I’d throw it out there.
