    Hey All,

I just hooked up the Aurora Pipeline Studio to my G5. I am attempting to digitize from my DVC Pro 50 deck using the SDI input/output. When attempting to do a batch capture, Final cut starts to capture, then stops and a message appears reading , “searching for broken timecode” Then the deck shuttles back and forward very slowly.

Is this problem caused by not having anything hooked up to the genlock input on the aurora?

Has anyone else had this problem?

    Thanks a bunch

Best to post this question in the Aurora forum:

I have this card, and used it only once with no issue. I did have a Genlock device attached to my PipePro and the beta deck, so…the fact that you don’t might in fact be the issue.

But don’t take my word…I am too new with the card. Post in the Aurora Forum.

try changing the serial protocol from Sony to Panasonic. (You are using RS-422, right?)

Yes I am using RS-422. I changed the setting, and it is still doing the same thing.

If you are certain the timecode is good, you can set FCP to ignore the timecode breaks and report after capture. This will allow you to get your digitizing done. You should give Aurora support a call, though.

Well good news is that I am able to digitize now, Bad news is that every few clips when batch capturing, a prompt appears saying “cannot communicate with the deck check cable connection/settings” I hit retry a couple times…and it then communicates. What could be causing this prompt now?

    Try swapping the firewire cable.

I don’t see this border that you are referring to. What border?

    Art,

I just tried my Panasonic machine (AJ-D640), and I am getting similar issues. There may be an issue with the latest Aurora driver and the latest FCP/Quicktime updates that affects serial control of Panasonic machines.
We should both send Aurora an e-mail about this or give them a call.

Sounds like a good idea. My panasonic is the AJ-D940. I plan on getting in touch with aurora tomorrow
