The only good thing I can say about imovie is that you can set your video to play, and it will automatically digitize and seperate every cut on your tape, making editing FAR easier.

Does final cut pro have any features like this? Is there a program that works with FCP to individually capture the different clips as Quicktime files?

I tried capturing through imovie and then importing the clips into FCP, but they digitize as “imovie media” and you have to render it on the timeline.

    Thanks!

    Hey Sally,
Yes, you can capture clips that way in FCP if you shot with standard DV using a different technique. Capture a clip, select it, run Mark>DV Start-Stop Detection and your Clip will then contain markers if you twirl down the disclosure triangle on the clip. These markers act as subclips. Or, if you prefer, you can select them and then run Modify>Make Subclip and turn the markers into media manageable items. Not quite as simple as iMovie, but it was designed much later than FCP, so it may have a few slick things FCP does not. Also, in many cases, it’s harder to do something in FCP over iMovie, but it’s more than likely more customizable. For instance, you cannot manage media in iMovie.
