  • Digitizing from hi8 camera through dvcam deck into firewire card

Posted by Jonathan Alexander on October 25, 2005 at 4:42 am

I am attempting to capture by playing my hi8 camera which is inputed to a SONY DSR-20 DVCAM deck which is then outputted via firewire into my firewire card on my computer. Now Vegas recognizes the deck, but I just can’t get the video signal to come through. It just asks for me to insert a tape, but of course I’m going from my hi8 and was hoping that it would just digitize on the fly. Is there a setting I must change for it to not need a tape and just to use the deck as a middle man? Please help, this is killing me! Thanks!

In the capture utility….options, prefferences, general…uncheck enable device control.

Gave that a try, but still no picture. I know that it is going to the deck because I Can see audio levels on the deck. Some reason Vegas isn’t getting it. Any other suggestion?

Does the deck have an E-E mode switch? If so, make sure it’s on.

On the DSR-20 setup menu scroll down, select and enable “DV EE Out”.

Plus, as mentioned above, turn off DV device control in Vegas capture.
