  • Digitizing from Avid PC 4.3 to AvidMac 5.0

I’m digitizing a project on a Avid PC Ver 4.3 and will soon move the project up to a Avid Mac 5.0 and start digitizing the rest there.

Just doing a little check here… i shouldn’t have any problems with the media since it will all be on an external drive. i would guess I’d just take that bin with the digitized media from the 4.3 and move it into my 5.0. Usually, moving up versions have no problems, it’s bringing them down a version that doesn’t work.

    Thanks for the help!

Not just media, but projects, bins, sequences, effects, titles — all good to go across platforms.

Here’s the hazard: hard drive formatting. FAT 32 works on both platforms, but takes a slight performance hit. Not a big deal for SD, but can be a drag on HD.

The solution that most of the folks I know at Avid use is a piece of software called MacDrive from Mediafour. Format your drive as a Mac drive, and mount it on your PC. It works great, and is the only maximum performance solution I’m aware of. I’m also not aware of any Mac software that can read PC formatting.

As long as you pay attention to this, you’re golden. Gotta love that cross-platform Avid workflow.

    Best,
    Tim

I have done this before and have only had problems with BACK SPACE EDITING (Rolling each cut 3 frames or so backwards) apart from that it’s never been a problem
