  • Digitize to MPEG1?

A client has asked for my company to digitize HDCAM 1080 23.98 and deliver to them a 525i29.97 MPEG1 file. The work flow that we use is to down-convert from our HDCAMSR deck to FCP at 525 29.97. We digitize with two BITC windows, 24 and 29.97. After digitizing, usually a 2 hour film, we put the video through compressor to get an MPEG1.

The question I have is, is there a way to capture straight to an MPEG 1? I don’t see it as an option under my compressor pull down when creating a new capture setting and it would seem that something so simple and old school, should be available. A co-worker was saying that with a black magic card and Adobe Premiere he was able to do it, but we don’t have either of those here.

Might there be a plug in we can get that will add MPEG-1 to our compressor options in the capture settings?

    Thanks,

    Mike

no, not possible without a dedicated mpeg capture board.

is it really mpeg1 or mpeg2?

you would need a board for either since mpeg compression is vastly
    different.

Thanks that what I thought. It is MPEG1.
