I’m fairly new to FCP. I’m a former Avid user.

I’m trying to digitize an entire 30 minute from raw tape. I’m using a Sony VX2100 camera as my deck, going in through firewire.

A couple of tapes have given me an error message of “Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted and your clip has been saved.”

The tape seems to play back ok. I’ve tried it on two different cameras with the same result.

    Any suggestons?

    Thanks!

The error could be many things. There are many posts on here that should help you if search for them.

A quick fix might be to log the tape in 5-10 min chunks and try to batch capture the material as opposed to using the “Capture Now” feature and trying to ingest the total 30 minutes. FCP sometimes has issues with capturing this much material and breaking it down usually helps.

At the very least it might help you single out the area FCP is having trouble with.

    Possible issues could be :

    Timecode break
    Dropped Frames
    Communication Error
    Unstable video
    The list could go on……

    Good Luck
