  • Digitize failed to find pre-roll point on tape

    Hey,

I’m having a problem with digitizing in Avid Xpress Pro HD. Whenever I set up an in point to start digitizing from the deck backs up to just about 2 secs before the in point then stops and gives me an error that says Failed to find pre-roll point. I have checked the time code and there are no breaks anywhere near the in point.
I run into the same problem with Digital Cuts except here the Digital cut tool shoots forward about 17 secs from where I set the in point. Very wierd.

Any one have a suggestion on how to regain control. I can crash capture by just pressing the record button in the digitize tool, but re-digitizing footage is impossible due to this issue. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

What kind of deck are you using?

This is from the supported devices list on the Avid webesite. FWIW, I’ve had a similiar problems with the DSR-11. Fortunately I don’t shoot DV much anymore.

Adjust Digital Cut Offset +/- 5 frames. Cycle power when switching between PAL and NTSC. Mojo or Adrenaline – If you lose communication with Mojo or Adrenaline after connecting a FireWire camera or deck, there are several things you can do
to correct the situation. Quit the application. Before re-launching, cycle the power going to the FireWire camera or deck. If the deck and camera goes into standby mode, unplug the power cable to clear the bus. After power is restored to the camera or deck, try starting the application. If there is still no communication with the Mojo or Adrenaline, power cycle the Mojo or Adrenaline. 1394 is not frame accurate for
    Digital Cut.

    Hi Steve
How are things? Apologies for taking you hurtling back to Mar 24, 2008, but I’m trying to rebuild an edit I did on DV in 2004, and I’ve hit the same problem you mentioned in your Mar 24, 2008 post, i.e.
“the deck (Sony DSR-40P in my case, DSR-11 in yours) backs up to just about 2 secs before the in point then stops and gives me an error that says Failed to find pre-roll point. I have checked the time code and there are no breaks anywhere near the in point”
…just wondering if you can remember whether you ever found a solution to this issue? The response you got in the thread seems to be about making a digital cut only, whereas your issue was more general.
    Many thanks!
    all the best
    Martin
