    Hello,

i am since two days digitizing betacam SP footage via a Sony J3 deck and blackmagic into FCP. (yesterday I was using an older version of the J3 with no firewire and today I had to use a newer, that had a firewire option which i did not use)
I observed this morning that digitizing about 3 and a half hours costed me 70 Gb which really is about 10 Gb pro 30 minute Betacam Tape. Today , however… SHOCK, after 4 more hours FCP said my memory was full… and I had only 2 Gb left…. I went to check the individual quicktime files on the capture scratsh and found that each 30 minute tape had an average of 50 Gb!!! one even took 74Gb!! Is this normal? Did I change something without noticing or is this really possible?

    Thank you soo much

    Jasmine

yesterday i was using the analogue version of a Sony J3 Betacam Sp deck which has no firewire and much less options on its back while today I had to use exactly the machine which is on your picture.

Capturing using what codec? Did you change the codec that you were capturing as between yesterday and today? perhaps the frame rate? The machine type won’t cause this, but your capture settings will.

    What are your capture settings?

DV25 formats will comsume about 12 gigs per hour. Figure at 5:1 compression that uncompressed SD 8bit would consume 5 times that. Which would be 60gb per hour or more if 10bit. Sounds like you switched your settings.
