April 23, 2016 at 1:15 amMy presumption is that since this kind of audio processing heavy lifting must require a huge amount of waveform processing and phonetic database querying, if they opened it instantly to all video editors, the load on their servers would probably skyrocket to the extent it would slow down the entire system.
This is another instance where letting a 3rd party do the work is probably best.
Unfortunately, the technology is so sophisticated that unless you ARE a huge company like Google or Apple, its likely mighty hard to attain the resources to play in this game.
Personally, while I love transcripts as much as the next guy – I find them to be of limited use to my style of editing. I seldom have so much footage that keyboard tagging ala/FCP X can’t do the job.
If I was a documentary producer working on something with vast searchable sources, I’m sure I’d feel totally different.
And if anybody ever does crack this code, I’ll have my money ready like everyone else.
