  • digital zoom leeway, 1080p 7D footage…

Am curious in everyone here’s experience, to what degree can I get away with blowing up/digitally zooming in on footage. It’s shot on a 7D at 1080. Will be used for projections at an event. I’ve told them to plan on projecting at 720p.

    thanks!

Depends entirely on the quality of the projector itself and the screen to a lesser degree. If you provide good looking 1080p footage it can look amazing with the right gear. (Or terrible too…) I’d ask to see a test.

I work with some panasonic cameras, so not the DSLR h.264 codec, but we have found 150% zoom on 1080p footage will still match when working in a 720p project.

I’d agree with zooming to around 150% but ill add that it can depend on how noisy your image is. Scaling your 1080p footage to 720 will do a lot to reduce didgital noise and obviously scaling up, even if you’re just going back to 100% of the original size will make any ‘grain’ more obvious compared to the rest.

I’ll agree with 150% too, I do this all the time and it works, only if you have sharp focus to start with though 🙂
