I’m sure you’ve discussed this repeatedly, but this is new for me…I want to get a completed edited digital master (Format 1:85 stereo drop-frame) with music, (created in avid) which is now on a miniDV cassette, into Vegas. Do I need to capture it? If I run firewire from the camera into my computer, will it open the camera up like a drive and show some file I can bring over, and then read THAT into Vegas? OR should I capture it directly into Vegas, and create into which format?

If it’s on miniDV tape, you’ll have to capture it.

Will there be loss of signal when you capture digital?

When capturing from tape via firewire, it’s like doing a file copy. What you get in the file will be bit for bit what’s on the tape (barring any read errors).

Ok somebody is going to burn my master which is on mini DV to DVD. If I get that DVD, will I also load it into Sony Vegas by again capturing it, or are there other possibilities?

If I have the master tape, I’ll take that over a DVD any day.

If you’re wanting to pull a DVD into Vegas, just go to File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc and point it to that DVD.

Here’s a good one: Does the quality of a video card affect the capture? I currently have a very basic 128 MB Nvidia Card, if I upgraded to 256 or more MB would this AFFECT capture resolution? Would VEGAS / rendering run faster? Curious, and thanks!

    No it does not.
