I have been noticing a problem lately when exporting quicktimes from FCP (6.0.3) I seem to get random digital hits that look like tape tears on BetaSP. It happens when I am exporting Uncompressed 10 Bit HD material info a master quicktime.

I did notice that this happened in one render I did in After Effects on the same machine (using the same source material) m so I don’t know if it is an issue with FCP or my Mac/RAID combo.

I thought I’d throw it out there in case anyone has ever seen the same problems.

    Thanks!

Since QUicktime is the driving force here…what version of QT do you currently have?

    7.5.5

That might be the issue. Getting the most recent versions of QT doesn’t always jive with FCP or the drivers for capture cards. More often than not, the releases (lately) are to add support for iTunes (video rentals) and iPhone and iPod…with little to no consideration or testing as to what it does to professional video editing. So having the latest and greatest isn’t always the best thing.

I am at QT 7.5 for that reason…I have heard of issues with 7.5.5. Unfortunately, this is a core component to the OS, so you can’t simply revert to an earlier version…not without risking serious issues to the OS. The only way to revert is to erase and reinstall the OS again, and only update to a certain point.

It also makes sense to be using the latest FCP vers 6.0.4 . I would never let my QT versions get ahead of my FCP version.

That said it may not help. Like Shane I have not changed to 7.5.5 because it adds nothing to FCP and until I hear otherwise, is likely to break things.

I’ll certainly update the FCP version. I have no idea who updated the quicktime – must have been a freelancer! Thanks for the advice.
