Ok, I have been on holiday with a Nikon D 70 camera and have a heap of photos at 6 mega pixels, they are large files. It is obvious I need to reduce the file sizes before placing them on the time line.
Any suggestions how to Resize the photos in Batch lots ? also, What would be a suitable Size and Resolution, so I can Pan and Zoom into the images ?

    Thanks Eric.

For batch resizing, get IrfanView. It’s free and the batch conversion/rename tool gives you several different options including new file size and format.

Image size depends on how far you want to zoom in on the original image. You’re in PAL territory so video is 720 x 576. Assuming you shot at the max setting of 3008 x 2000, this means that, keeping the original size, you could easily do a 5X time zoom without any loss.

I just finished a grad video where most of the digitals were 1280 x 960. As long as I didn’t expect to zoom into a head & shoulders shot of one person in a group of 20, I was fine.

    Thanks Mike,
I used your file size, render best, and the zoom and pan worked well.
By chance a couple of the photos had been cropped or rotated to Vertical, this meant I had to select 4:3 aspect ratio which limited zoom or pan options.
From this I suspect it is not wise to crop in Photoshop first, probably best to use the Pan Crop tool in Vegas.

When resizing I only altered the Pixel size, I did not alter the long and short side to inches, will play about some more.

    Thanks again Eric
