Digital Juice or iStock?
Posted by Brian Igelman on February 8, 2013 at 7:41 pmHopefully this isn’t too off topic… In my shop we use Premiere Pro. We’re considering a stock footage contract, but we’re totally confused about which is the better buy. Does anyone have experience with using Digital Juice or iStock with Premiere Pro? Any recommendations? Thanks!

February 8, 2013 at 9:47 pmWe’ve been Digital Juice customers for years. They don’t offer a stock footage contract library, but neither does iStock, unless you count their Corporate Account as a contracted situation. With DJ, their stock footage library is a fixed number of clips, and a rather small collection compared to a repository such as iStock. Digital juice has so much more to offer than stock footage though. It’s certainly one of their smallest offerings. For stock footage though, the repositories such as iStock, Pond5, Revostock, etc. are wonderful for individual clip purchases.

February 8, 2013 at 10:02 pmThanks, Steve! We’re planning to lean heavily on whatever stock source we decide on. Our proposed deal with iStock is the purchase of something like 120,000 credits per year. I just wondered if we were wasting money when DJ is out there with a considerably cheaper offering… I do like DJ’s Premiere Pro and After Effects templates too.

February 8, 2013 at 10:16 pmCheck out videoblocks.com I took them up on a 7 day free trial and they offered me 6 months for $89, unlimited downloads. They have stock footage, AE templates, moving bkgs., SFX, production music. I’m impressed with what they offer.

February 8, 2013 at 10:44 pmI would highly recommend Pond 5 for stock footage. They have very affordable footage and were easy to set up a terms agreement with. Plus, there’s a Pond 5 extension that runs within Premiere or Bridge or some such (I guess I don’t use it very much!). I researched all the other stock houses before settling on them.

February 9, 2013 at 5:17 pmHey Brian (and others),
Hope this isn’t too spammy, but just wanted to chime in and agree with Dave–I think we at Pond5 have what you’re looking for!
Our plugin for Premiere Pro (https://www.pond5.com/adobe) lets you easily search and organize stock footage from within the editing environment, and you can replace watermarked preview clips with hi-res versions in a single click.
We also have the largest selection of royalty-free stock footage on the web, approaching 1.5 million clips, and growing exponentially. That’s because we think it’s really important to treat our contributors fairly. Not only do we let them set their own prices, we also pay them the highest rate in the industry (50% on every sale). The result is a high-quality, low-price collection.
Finally, there’s no need to buy a package/subscription. You’re welcome to purchase prepaid credits, of course, but everything is available a la carte, so it’s basically risk-free to try it out.
Again, didn’t mean to hijack this thread with a marketing pitch, but I honestly thought you might appreciate the information. Hope to see you at the site!

February 9, 2013 at 8:22 pmCouldn’t agree more. I didn’t want to push Pond5 too much because I sell footage on there myself, albeit just a little bit.
