I am a freelance video editor who uses many flavors of After Effects and NLE’s. On of my clients has AE 6.5 on a Windows XP 2002 machine. I have a simple 2 layer composition. Layer 1 is a digital juice(DJ) animated lower third title background, with alpha channel. Layer 2 is text that travels with layer 1. On th AE timeline, all is well- the 2 layers fly as one unit, and placing them both over a test background shows that the alpha channel is working perfectly. However, when I render, the text layer is there, but the DJ animation is not. I am rendering to Quicktime, Animation, Millions of colors+, as I have been successfully for years.

I have re-interpreted the DJ background with every setting I can find. No change. A full screen background from the same DJ disc renders fine. The alpha channel DJ lower third keys perfectly in their Avid, as it does on the AE timeline. It just will not render.

I can do the same moves in the Avid, but I my goal is to to create a master movie to use in a series of programs, and avoid re-creating the same move several times per episode.

    Any ideas?

Right click on the DJ layer and ensure that it is not a guide layer (these do not render). Also, in the Output Module, check that the Channels in Video Output are set to RGB + Alpha.
