Digital Hits going back to AJ-HD1200A
We are trying to lay back some DVCPro HD clips (720p60) to tape.
The HD1200A is connectecd via FW, and we successfully captured thise clips fromthe same
deck. The picture shows up as a still when FCP is paused on a frame,but
when the clip plays the picture gets little digital hits all over the frame. When FCP pauses,
the hits go away. The clips look fine on the desktop.
I thought it might be FW interferrence on the drives, but I moved the clips to the internal drive,
disconnected the FW drives. Same thing.Anyone have an idea about this symptom?

You cannot monitor the video signal through a 1200A via Firewire. Teh 1200A does not hold a clean signal when recording via Firewire or in EE mode with Firewire as the input. Actual recording to tape is not affected, it will record cleanly. But actually trying to view a firewire feed through the 1200A does not work. You need to record your tape first, then play it back.

Thanks for your response. We moved the media to another mac, and yes, when you play back through the deck, there are jumps in the picture, but the signal arrives on the tape just fine.
HOWEVER, the other machine actually had blocky picture breakup, like digital hits, during playback AND recording. So in the case of our first attempt, the picture played back with the recorded digital hits.
The same deck, cable, and source drive was used in both cases.
FCP v 5.0.4 was used in the first case, 5.1 in the second (working) case.We also have Avid Xpress Pro 4.8 on the machine.
I’m thinking it may be some kind of QT interference, or a wonky FW controller. Unfortunately, the deck was a rental, so it will be a while before I can test it again.
