Digital “dropout” using AJ-PCD20 card reader

Drag n drop has not given me any issues since my P2 investment some time ago, is there something I’m not aware of with all my Mac’s.
P2CMS I don’t use as it does not ingest clips consecutively, or maybe i’m missing something ?.

Tom,

If you have just been using drag and drop on your Mac, you are obviously living a clean live. 😉 This is just not a recommended practice. You should use a program that watches the transfer and verifies it. There are other programs that do this, including Raylight, Shotput, P2 Log, HD Log. Some cheaper than others. Obviously P2CMS doesn’t work they way you want it to , but these other programs might and it would be much safer.

In P2CMS, select all clips (command-a) then Export (command-e). Choose a destination, CHoose ‘Copy” and click ‘Do compare’. This will copy the clips in the structure they are on the card. No need to ingest into the database if you don’t want to.

Jeremy, Your a legend, it works as you described, I did a test and yes your correct, I could not find a way to get the files in consecutively, My next project shortly I’ll use that method and try to get away from the unrecommended practice of Drag n Drop, (sounds like a gay exercise).

I tried using P2CMS when it was available for the Powermac. Using the P2 Viewer, you could see the “dropouts” happening when the AJ-PCD20 was reading the card, so it wasn’t just Final Cut. I think it’s a piece of overpriced junk myself. Again, our experiment with the camera tells me there’s something wrong with that card reader.

We are facing this same problem, we also used ShotPut Pro to create and verify our masters and this problem still happened. How could this happen?

Can anyone from Panasonic shed light on this as we are using the latest version of ShotPut, HPX300, AVC codec, p2 e-series cards and our footage has digital errors in it.

We have all our verification logs from shotput too, so things just don’t add up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jeremy,

We are shooting on the HVX300 after a shoot day we dump the footage via a Panasonic PCD20 connected via 1394B (FW800) through a G-Drive to our MacBook Pro. On the Mac we run ShotPutPro to create a duplicate and verify the entire p2 card. At a later date we create the proxy media inside FCP and this is when the digital drops out were discovered. We keep all the logs from ShotPutPro and none of the transfers include any errors. The odd thing is that these errors don’t appear on all the cards just some of the card but using the exact same setup.
