Does anybody know if it is possible to dump a sequence directly to DVD or do I have to use third party software?

I have a DVD burner on my computer but cant seem to find info on how to get AVID to see it and like it. Have tried configuring decks/digital cut and a couple of other things but I am lost.

    Any help appreciated

You can’t go direct. You first need to encode the sequence as an MPEG2 file using third party software. If Sorenson Squeeze was provided as part of your bundle, then use that. Export a QuickTime reference from the Avid and encode. From there the MPEG2 elementary streams are out into a DVD authoring software for output to DVD from your burner.

Or do like I do for quick reviews, buy an external DVD recorder for less than $300 and do it in real time directly from the timeline as a playout. Depending on model, you can go out as composite, S-Video, component, or DV.

Thank you MichaelP, very much appreciated.

after further investigation that makes a lot of sense.

unfortunatly i dont seem to have Sorenson or any other encoding software.

Any recomendation on this type of software for those on a budget?

    Thanks

So when wanting to go the other way… from a DVD into the avid instead of playing out of a DVD machine to a piece of videotape, then into the avid, is there any third party setups you’re aware of that would do the job? I know some of the DVD’s i get are so odd that they’ll only play in quicktime, and not on any of the DVD’s we have in the station.
    thanks

I have seen someone take DVD into the Avid directly with a portable DVD player through an Avid Mojo?

It plays on the DVD player as it’s ingesting, I believe as a standard(?) piece of media rather than DVD file/format?

I will investiagte further when he returns from vacation.

    o.k

Not sure what your using but on a NewsCutter you can open the Capture tool and click the Toggle Source button to get the globe icon.

select V1 A1 A2 and hit play on your DVD player hooked up to your Mojo……hit record on your capture tool and it should treat it like a feed and capture to your bin or timeline.

Might want to check your Capture settings and make sure that you dont have a small capture limit if capturing something of any length.

I’m on a symphony and no mojo! I’ve tried a couple of trial softwares from the net and they work so, so. There should be something better out there! thanks
