Digital Cinema Desktop Preview
Posted by Phaseshift on February 7, 2006 at 2:35 amGreetings: I fired up FCP 5.0.4 today, and found that Digital Cinema Desktop Preview is gone. Not in any of the usual places. Simply not there.
I tried deleting the prefs; I also ran FCP Rescue. No joy.
Running OS 10.4.4 on a G5 Quad with a GeForce 7800GT, 1 23″ Cinema Display.
Any suggestions?

February 7, 2006 at 12:41 pmShane, thanks for the suggestion, but I already know its supposed to be there. What I’m saying is, the command has disappeared.
I’m not at my Mac, so I can’t quote the menus exactly, but at View>External Video my options right now are:
None
[Missing] DV/DVCPro NTSC 29.98I also get an alert when I launch FCP telling me that the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview is not attached, or something like that. It’s a bit bizarre.

Try a complete shutdown of everything.
Then power up in no particular order, except make sure you power up the CPU last.
Try again.
I’ve had similar issues happen on site, and only a restart has fixed it.

February 7, 2006 at 11:56 pmThanks, Debe, but that didn’t solve it.
Slightly more detail, now that I’m home.
The alert box that comes up when I start FCP says:
Unable to locate the following external devices:
Digital Cinema Desktop Preview – Mainetc.
I’ve saved a copy of this and the video playback menu selection at:

All the best,

February 8, 2006 at 4:06 pmHmmm. I did add a musical keyboard via USB, a Korg KONTROL49. I’ll try unplugging that. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try reinstalling FCP.

February 9, 2006 at 12:17 amDisconnecting the KONTROL49 didn’t help. I ended up reinstalling FCP from the original CD (glad I hadn’t sent in for that Universal update yet), and all now seems well.
Thanks everyone for your input.
