Hi, I searched the forum and internet to understand something about genlock blackburst but I need someone who can help me about a real world situation.
I work as video editor in a sound design company, just solving common problems or editing short commercials in DV using Final Cut. Last week my boss told me he is going to edit sound for a broadcast production so that the source material will be Digital Betacam… I will have to capture and entire Digital Betacam 40 min. tape, then my boss will edit music and audio and I will have to replace some little parts of video (such as titles that needs to be traslated etc…) then put all again on Digital Betacam from the Final Cut timeline…
I have never used Digital Betacam… My boss will rent a VTR and buy an SD DeckLink Pro card for capture so I will use SDI input for both audio and video… Will I need a blackburst generator or will I simply connect the SDI output from the VTR to the card for capture and then for mastering?
What is the function of a genlock input on that Card??? I work using a G5 2Ghz DP with a 500Gb Serial ATA Hard Drive… Is it good for that job?
    Could someone help me please?
    Many thanks

The bigger issue is setting up the digi beta deck menus properly.
There are a hell of alot of menus which must be set up correctly.

Talk to the rental house in advance to discuss your specific application and ask the engineering department to pre program the menus in advance.

The vtr can be set to lock the incoming SDI signal, external such as a blackburst generator, or it’s own internal bb generator.

Do not mix and match analog audio with SDI video or else you will have a audio sync issue.

If you go SDI with the video set the decklink to output the audio embedded and in addition make sure the vtr audio input is set to accept the embedded audio.
