    Hi folks

I have been asked to quote on a series of video’s that need to be shot on Digital Betacam. I have ever only used Vegas with DV25 material.
Can I edit the DigiBeta material in Vegas and get the full use of its colourspace during the editing process. And outputting, will I have full colourspace to the release master? Or do I need to use another software package for this one. Of course I don’t want to change as I have been happy working in Vegas. Besides, another learning curve is time consuming.
    Thanks
    Geoff

Check out Timothy Duncan’s post about working with Vegas and Digi-Beta it may be of use as a pointer as to what you can do:

yes ( and a little no) .. yes you can edit clips from digibeta in 4:2:2 color space with Vegas … you’ll have to digitize it with hardware that can capture 4:2:2 … if you use decklink and Vegas 6 to capture it will capture/output 8bit 4:2:2 clips ..

the NO part is digibeta is 10bit .. vegas does not work in 10bit nor will the V6 capture utility capture 10bit ( captures 8 bit using the sony YUV codec ).. i believe using decklinks capture utility will capture 10 bit but Vegas will process the renders i believe in 8bit???
8 or 10 bit is up to the individual… all broadcast video and i believe HD is 8 bit .. there are other NLE that will edit digibeta clips in 10 bit …

If your drive array is up to the task you can capture and output Digibeta with a Decklink + Vegas – works very well. You could also consider having a dub made from a well-done DV master to Digibeta- many people have done this and it looks and sounds great (an SDI transfer is ideal).
