Difficulty getting Stroke to work

Hello all,

When ever I use AE its to do something ive never done so its always a learning process.

I figured out how to do what I want but when I do it it doesnt work so I must be missing something.

What I want to do is animate a drawing so it looks like its being drawn.

Here is what Ive done.
Place drawing into comp. its a jpg I made in PS. scale it to size and generate stroke. I then use the pen tool to trace out the drawing as it would be draw.
At this point I go to increase the brush size to cover the drawing and nothing happens. As the brush gets bigger I visually dont see it get bigger. Also If i try to animate it by sliding the start or end time nothing happens.

So I must be missing something

For the effect you’re after, you need ‘Reveal original image’ as paint style, and make sure the correct mask (or ‘all masks’) is selected under ‘Path’ – by default it’ll just use the first path. Check the path(s) are where you think they by hitting ‘m’ with the layer selected in the comp.
If it’s neither of those you might need to post a screenshot.

Thanks for the replys guys.

I have set up the masks and stroke the same way you describe. Also if I were to create something like a text document I can stroke it and everything works fine so I know ive done it right.

But every time I try to stroke a image(jpg,AI,PNG)I cant get it to work nothing shows up. there is a mask its just not showing the stroke effect.

You can upload the project file with the PNG or Ai which is not working with the stroke ffect.
By looking at the Project File we can get what exactly the problem is.

Thanks for the help. I was creating a test project file to upload for help but this time I used a tiff file and that seems to work. I dont know if thats what got it to work but for now it solves my problem.
