  • Difficult Alpha Gradient Problem…

Posted by Rob Mason on July 12, 2019 at 6:55 pm

I have a picture below of the type of look I am trying to achieve. I want to have a cylindrical shape with an Alpha falloff near the top as pictured. I’ve tried all the different Gradient types on my Alpha channel, along with different Projection types. NONE of them are helping me get this look.

    Any advice?!

Linear 3D gradient with the Y start and end set to whatever works would be where I would start

That one seemed to work only if I don’t change the size and of the object itself.

Suppose it will have to do for now.

    Thanks!

I never thought to suggest it since you said you tried all the gradient types but why not 2D-V? That should work and will move with the object (without xpresso help) and scale with the size

Unfortunately I know nothing about Xpresso yet. I did try 2D-V and it was useless. Suppose I need some brushing up on Xpresso then…

Brian is saying that you don’t need Xpresso, just a 2D -V gradient and UVW mapping
