Can I have different sized source and record monitors the way you can have in FCP? On Avid they seem to be paired together in one window. How do I separate them so I can size them differently in Media Composer 6?

You can’t in the way that you can in FCP. What you might try, is hold option and click on the “Source / Record” editing button in the timeline. That will close the source window, and show you only the record window. Then, to open clips, old option and double click them in the bin. It will open it’s own source window. It’s not the same as in Final Cut, and hardly efficient but it’s the closest thing I can think of.

I’m on a mac and I tried by pressing option and clicking on Toggle source/record button. I also tried by pressing Command and clicking on Toggle source/record button. Neither method closed the source window.

Sorry, not the “Toggle Source / Record in Timeline” on the bottom left of the timeline, but the “Source / Record Mode” on the left of the timeline. Directly underneath the Smart Tool.

My bad. That definitely worked. Achieved the results I’m looking for. Thanks a million!

You can also avoid all the option clicking…there is a setting under “bin”

“Double click loads object in” can be set to “new popup window”
