I have a screen capture video of a presentation that was recorded as 1024×768 with a PAR of 1 and a frame rate of 30.

I then have HDV video of the speaker that was talking during the presentation. This video is 1140×1080 with a par or 1.333 and a frame rate of 29.97.

I have imported these into a sequence that is 1024×768 with a PAR of 1 and a frame rate of 29.97.

I put the screen capture in the video one track and laid the HDV on top of it in the video two track. I then scaled the HDV down so it was small and in the bottom right corner (trying to make a basic video of a speaker talking with the presentation they gave as the main focus). Am I using an improper technique for doing this?

When I export (regardless of codec used – but lets say with F4V) using 1024×768 with PAR of 1 and frame rate of 29.97 the screen recording comes out very poor quality.

If I click on the HDV and select Interpret footage and set it to PAR of 1 – then when I export the screen capture looks GREAT – but obviously the HDV looks wrong. Also exports not including the HDV look fine. Clearly someone the different PARs are messing me up – but I cannot figure out why or how to fix it. Everything I have read seems to say as long as you tell Premiere CS4 what the actual PAR is (which I have done) it will export things properly and properly combine different PARs…. Any ideas or suggestions?

One thought I had was that I was combining the two videos in an improper way and that was causing Premiere to use the PAR from the HDV since it was on top.. but that doesnt seem to make sense bc CS4 is supposed to be able to handle different PARs.. so I am super confused.

1024×768 is not a standard format and your HDV should be 1440×1080 at 1.33.

If you are working in 4:3 SD, use 648×480 Square, or 854×480 for widescreen. But since you are working with HDV, I would recommend working in an HDV project, and scale your 1024×768 footage accordingly, either with bars or graphics on the side to match the frame.

At export time, use 1920×480, 1280×720, or 854×480 square, all of which give you a format that will fit nicely in a widescreen frame.

For some reason – when I select the screen recorded video, right click and change it from frame blend to scale to frame size – it exports PERFECTLY… no idea why (and would love an explanation) – but either way its working now.. so I cant complain too much – thanks for the suggestion.
