Activity Forums VEGAS Pro different hard drives

I’m aware that to have Vegas on one drive (C) and to capture to a physically different drive is important. Will it speed up rendering if the media used for the render (D-drive) are on a different physical drive from where the render is being burned (E-drive)?

    Thanks,

    Rick

Yes, it SHOULD be faster with your source and destination on two different drives. The degree of significance will depend on how long a piece you are creating and what’s involved in the content.

The speedup will probably be marginal if at all. Rendering is CPU and RAM bound, not disk bound.

[Terje A. Bergesen] “Rendering is CPU and RAM bound, not disk bound.”

That’s not always true. If I’m rendering something that is predominently DV-AVI with no effects, it’s basically doing a “file copy”. In this case, it generally WILL be faster rendering to a separate drive. Bottom line – it depends on the project so it may or may not be true.

Good point, you are as always 100% correct. When creating a DV-AVI stream, disk speed will be a factor unless there are lots of effects and transitions.
