I’m preparing a Blu-Ray disc for exhibition at a local film festival, and I’ve run into a problem: 4 of the 5 films are in 16×9 HD, but one is 720×480 (a standard def transfer of a 16mm film).

When I previewed the disc in encore, all five films displayed correctly, but when I did a test run at the theatre, the 720×480 was distorted. The projector, which was in 16×9 mode, will not adjust automatically, nor do we want to change the projector setting in between films.

How can I add “letter boxes” to the side of the 720×480 film in compressor to make it play back correctly?

Put the finished master in FCP into a 16×9 Sequence.
    Make adjustments/additions (black boxes)
    Export a 16×9 file.
    Compress for Bluray.
