  • Did I do this right? (Making NTSC DVD from PAL timeline)

Posted by Josh Evans on October 5, 2008 at 8:53 pm

OK I did do a search before posting this, and am currently converting using MPEG streamclip.

    What I have done is

    1. Export my HDV timeline at current settings to the desktop.

    2. I Dragged the quicktime movie into MPEG Streamclip.

    3. Export as Quicktime movie, but in options there were only a few NTSC Settings. I chose DVCPRO NTSC.

Its currently exporting. Am I doing this right? WHat is the next step?

    Thanks.

MPEG Streamclip is used to rip DVD material for editing, not to create a file for DVDSP.

You need to convert your PAL quicktime to an NTSC quicktime. Supposedly Compressor can do this, I’ve never tried this feature.

You then use Compressor to make an MPEG-2 file for the DVD, NOT a DVCPro HD file.

In Episode you do both steps in one operation. It’s pretty easy, but you should pay attention to how it gets cropped or stretched, as PAL is a different aspect than NTSC.

In Compressor it takes two steps, as Walter says.

    Have a wonderful day.
